Final Term of Foundational Mastery

Year 9 is the last year ProEd will deliver a full-term focus on algebra, indices, and surds. From Year 10 onwards, these topics will appear less frequently as standalone lessons but will be applied within advanced topics like functions, calculus, and logarithms. That’s why it’s essential to build confidence and fluency now.

Precalculus Algebra: Laying the Groundwork

One key lesson in our algebra unit is Precalculus Algebra, where students explore more sophisticated algebraic techniques that will be instrumental in Year 11 and 12 calculus. This includes:

• Rearranging and manipulating rational expressions

• Working with inequalities and constraints

• Setting up functions in algebraic form

Geometry & Measurement: Final Deep Dive

This will also be the final year students receive direct instruction on Geometry and Measurement, including:

• Surface Area & Volume (all 3D shapes)

• Similar & Congruent Triangles

These topics are essential for reasoning, but from Year 10 onwards, they’ll be assumed knowledge.

Future-Facing: Networks in Year 9

To allow more time in Year 10 for advanced algebra and functions, we’ve moved the Networks topic (normally Year 10) into the Year 9 program. This allows our Year 10 curriculum to better focus on:

• Functions

• Polynomials

• Logarithms

• Trigonometric modelling

We typically recommend that students begin Year 9 maths tutoring at ProEd in Term 4 of Year 8.

Starting early gives us ample time to thoroughly cover all the required syllabus content, while also allowing students to engage with more challenging concepts that build a strong foundation for advanced and extension-level mathematics in later years.

We also offer flexible entry points throughout the year, so students can join at any time based on their current level and goals.

ProEd provides a wide range of ongoing support to ensure every student has access to help when they need it. We offer free daily workshops, a #justask channel on Discord for quick tutor assistance, and Igloo revision sessions to help students prepare for school assessments.

Students can also request extra printed materials or targeted practice sets at no additional cost. This combination of classroom learning, online support, and personalised resources ensures that all students receive continuous guidance and reinforcement beyond their weekly lessons.
