Year 10 Mathematics

Year 10 Maths at ProEd serves as a vital bridge between junior mathematics and the more advanced concepts introduced in Extension 1 and 2. During this year, we focus on developing a deeper understanding of Trigonometry, functions, polynomials, logarithms, and advanced graph-sketching techniques. Mastery of these areas is essential for students aiming to excel in senior mathematics.

While our Year 10 course does omit a few topics from the NSW syllabus, these have already been thoroughly covered in earlier ProEd courses—such as surface area and volume, geometry, indices, and surds—during Years 8 and 9. This allows our program to concentrate on higher-order reasoning and problem-solving skills that better prepare students for the rigours of senior mathematics.

There are three key topics students must master before entering Year 11 Extension Mathematics: Trigonometry, Functions, and Graphing. Our Year 10 course is designed to thoroughly develop these skills through an accelerated and structured program.

At ProEd, the Year 10 course runs over three terms, allowing us to complete all Year 10 content by Term 2. Because we begin one term ahead, students spend the second half of Year 10 starting on Year 11 Extension 1 or Advanced Mathematics content—placing them two terms ahead of school.

This approach gives students ample time to adjust to the pace, rigour, and abstract thinking required in senior mathematics, ensuring a smoother and more confident transition into Extension 1.

Students can also request extra printed materials or targeted practice sets at no additional cost. This combination of classroom learning, online support, and personalised resources ensures that all students receive continuous guidance and reinforcement beyond their weekly lessons.
